How to travel safe with your dog?

Many people assume that it’s supremely difficult🙆‍♀️ or not safe to travel with dogs🐕. So most assume that they’ll need to pay quite enough cash to cover the dog-sitting costs every time when leaving their doggies at home while they travel. However,  with research and a little extra planning, you can take your furry friends along with you on most travel adventures and it’s not as difficult as you might think and it will be safe if you follow the necessary preparation steps.

Travels with  dogs can be more colorful ✨and locally focused, and will make you to explore parts of your destination 🌏that you would have never experienced if you travel dogless.

Dogs help to meet more people, see more places, and live in and cherish the present. There’s no better way to appreciate a new place than with a dog🐶!

The following steps should be prepared and checked in advance if you are planning to travel with a dog⬇:

A) Whenever you travel by plane/border crossing by any transport your necessary check list is the following:

1✅Prepare health checks and travel documents for  your pet in accordance with destination country. Here are the useful links to check the requirements depending on the country of destination:

2✅ Airline Pet Policy   When making your reservations, you must make reservations for your dog. There are restrictions on the number of animals permitted on each flight. They are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. When making reservation, always double-check, if not triple-check, airline pet policies.  Policies are constantly in flux, and rules are always changing. Check the airline’s website, give them a call, and send an email confirmation when  bringing a dog on a flight.

Policies and prices for flying with your pet also vary according to a few factors. They usually depend on the  airline , the country you’re traveling to, and the size and breed of your pet. There’s also the option of air travel in the cabin (the safest one), in cargo, and in baggage. You should look for cabin option for your small dog. Check it here:

4✅ Your Dog safety essentials

– In the event that your dog gets lost on your trip, you can increase the chances of recovery by making sure he can be properly identified: Make sure your dog has a sturdy leash and collar. The collar should have identification tags with the dog’s name, your name, and your home phone number, as well as proof of rabies shots. If you plan on being away for more than a few days, consider purchasing a second identification tag giving the location and phone number of your vacation spot. – Consider a permanent form of identification, such as a microchip  – Bring a recent picture of a dog along with you, as well as a copy of his health records listing all of his recent vaccinations.

5✅Your Dog feeding, watering and care essentials

pack your pup’s essentials in case you can’t find them on the road (not every location has a good pet store!) – Pack food and water. Check with your veterinarian about giving your dog only bottled water while away from home to ensure that he doesn’t get an upset stomach.  –  Buy collapsible bawls and let him get used to using them one week or so before you travel. –  A favorite toy or chew item to ease travel stress and pass the time on long car or plane rides. To make sure your dog doesn’t get bored, provide him with a few new toys — and a couple of old favorites. You might want to include a puzzle-type toy to keep him occupied.  – A bed and  a comforting blanket to sleep with that carries some of the normal smells of home. “This will help your dog feel comfortable and relaxed, as many like familiar smells.” – Flea and tick medicine – Potty bags to help clean up when nature calls.

6✅ Dog basic  obedience training

Before you hit the road, it’s best if your dog knows a thing or two. Basic commands, like “sit” and “stay,” will make managing a dog while traveling easier. A well-trained dog can be left behind in a hotel room or rental to rest for a few hours while you have a nice dinner or visit a museum. Work on obedience and manners, and make sure your pup always puts their best paw forward. If you need help, working with a certified trainer is best. There are also many resources online to help ensure that your dog is obedient and ready to venture out into the world. We recommend:

a) the AllThingsPups training tips( they have a YouTube channelInstagram account, and podcast)

b) and Absolute Dogs training website.

7✅ Be prepared for an emergency. Find the number of the nearest 24-hour veterinary emergency hospital and program it into your cell phone, along with the office and emergency number for your regular veterinarian (in case the veterinarians need to speak with each other). That way, if there’s a situation where your dog needs medical attention, you are prepared with the necessary information on hand.

8✅ Another important thing to be chosen is an Arline-approved Pet carrier/Crate . Each airline has its own variations on regulations and services. For example, if your pet carrier (crate) doesn’t meet its requirements, the airline may not allow you to use it. They may, however, allow your dog in the passenger cabin if your crate or carrier fits under the seat in front of you.   There are many options on the market when it comes to pet carriers. The most comfortable for travelling with your pets is the Pet carrier Sack, a dog carrier backpack that fits small dogs of up to 16 lbs.  It comes in multiple colors and design.Pets love being able to see from backpack and feel much safer! Bubble window makes it come true that pets are able to see everything in pet backpack and bring travel more fun. You can carry the backpack in the front of your body, open the front window or take off the bubble to let your dog head out. Such backpack allows you to reach the pet inside when he may feel nervous. Security leash hook attachment provides extra security when using this feature.

B) Short Traveling by Car

– Get your dog used to the car by letting him sit in it with you without leaving the driveway, and then going for short rides.

– Avoid carsickness by letting your dog travel on an empty stomach. However, make sure he has plenty of water at all times.

– Keep the car well ventilated. If the dog is in a crate, make sure that fresh air can flow into the crate.

– Do not let your dog ride with his head sticking out of an open window. This can lead to eye injuries.

-Never let your dog ride in the back of an open truck. This is extremely dangerous and can lead to severe injuries or death.

– Stop frequently for exercise and potty breaks. Be sure to clean up after your dog.

-Never, ever leave your dog unattended in a closed vehicle, particularly in the summer. If you must leave the car, designate a member of the family to stay with the dog.

C) Travel by bicycle /motorcycle with a dog

Cycling is a great way for both you and your dog to get exercise and a healthy dose of fresh air. It allows you to cover more distance than by walking, while being slow enough to appreciate the scenery and the world around you.   But with moving bicycle parts and the unpredictability of dogs, holding a leash or cycling with a dog tied to the bike can be a catastrophe waiting to happen. One sudden jolt for a squirrel, and you’re toppling over.  With an unpredictable dog or where traffic is involved, you will want your dog safely harnessed and leashed to the non-traffic side of your bicycle. So this is checklist what you need for travelling by bike with you doggie:

– One of the most essential thing you need for the safety of travelling by bike is to use Pet carrier Sack where your dog will be safe, will watch everything you are passing by bike  and will feel you close enough not to be stressed. We just mentioned above some of the benefits of such carrier sack.

-Your Dog safety essentials, including:

1)leash and collar/harness 2)identification tag 3)microchip 4)picture of a dog

– Your Dog feeding, watering and care essentials⬇

– Pack food and water. – collapsible bawls –  A favorite toy or chew item – Flea and tick medicine – Potty bags to help clean up when nature calls.

So where you decide to travel with your small baby check up again this check list to be sure you did not missed something important.
