WHY IT IS SO IMPORTANT☝️ FOR YOU AND FOR YOUR DOG🐕?

HOW IT IS BENEFICIAL ❤️ FOR YOU?

Dogs are great at providing strong motivation to maintain their owner’s exercise program – who can resist a happy dog, panting with excitement at the front door? They make great walking companions and can serve as the perfect social support.

Here are some reasons why you should carve out time for dog walking every single day⬇️.

-PREVENT HEALTH PROBLEMS❤️

The World Health Organization indicates that the extent of adequate exercise necessary for promoting good health consists of 30 minutes of moderate to intense exercise five days every week, plus strengthening workouts twice a week for adults ages 18 to 65 years old. If owners can stick to this standard, they can benefit from the following⬇️:

1. Reduced risk of breast cancer by 75%
2. Reduced risk of diabetes by 49%
3. Reduced risk of heart disease by 35%
4. Reduced risk of colon cancer by 22%

The evidence is inconclusive, but it has been suggested that compared to dog owners who walk their dogs regularly, people who don’t own dogs may have a higher risk of⬇️:
1. high BMI
2. diabetes
3. high blood pressure
4. high cholesterol
5. depression

Dr Rebecca Rohrer, Clinical Fellow at Bupa UK, says: “Getting enough exercise can reduce your chance of developing type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, falls, depression, joint and back pain, and some types of cancer. And the benefits to wellbeing are huge too – improving your sleep, maintaining a healthy weight, managing stress and improving your quality of life.

“New public health guidelines say that we should all take as many opportunities as we can throughout the day to be active. The more we do, the better it is for our mental and physical wellbeing. So if you have a dog to walk you’re at an advantage, because you have planned activity scheduled into your day from the start. The guidelines state that adults should aim to do exercise every single day, doing at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity activity over the course of each week. Moderate intensity means that you’re able to talk while exercising but not sing.

-ARE YOU OVERWEIGHT😱? YOU ARE NOT GETTING ENOUGH EXERCISE🏃‍♂️

So if you are having difficulty sticking to your fitness program, why don’t you try doing your routines with your dog? Unlike your human buddies who are likely to skip exercise sessions due to appointments or bad weather, dogs will not give you any excuse to miss out on your daily exercise.

-RELAX AND DE-STRESS❤️

Some evidence has suggested that being around a dog may lower levels of cortisol, a stress hormone. And in an interview study, dog owners said that walking with their dog was relaxing and relieved stress – having a positive psychological impact on their well-being. Walking is known to be a therapeutic form of exercise, so it follows that having a dog by your side – with their joyful enthusiasm and desire for fun – enhances the experience.

-SOCIAL CONNECTION❤️

Being sociable is good for your well-being. Walking your dog naturally brings this about – you’re likely to meet other dog walkers, which helps build a sense of connectedness and well-being. People who walk their dogs are seen by other people as friendly and approachable.

-COMMUNITY HEALTH BENEFITS❤️

Research undertaken by the University of Western Australia has found that owning a pet can also benefit the whole community. The researchers found that pet owners, in particular dog owners, were more likely to:

-acknowledge and greet other people in the street
-exchange favours with neighbours
-meet others in their neighbourhood.

WHY IT IS SO IMPORTANT☝️ FOR DOGS 🐕TO GO FOR A WALK?

One of the most important things you can do for your dog is to keep him engaged and exercised. The easiest way to do this is to take your dog for a walk.

We all know that walking our dog 🚶🐕at least once every day is recommended, but many of us struggle to fit it into our schedule.

But as important as a good walk is to your best friend, we still find excuses not to do it.

-REDUCE OVERWEIGHT💥

Dogs, like humans, can also suffer health problems due to excess weight. Vets are seeing more instances of overweight pets as our lifestyles become more sedentary. So do it for you; do it for your friend. Walk off the pounds, together.

-DOG BEHAIVOR CORRECTION 💥

Does your dog bark excessively/chew/dig/run away/jump on people/talk with his mouth full/leave the seat up – oh, wait a minute. Such destructive canine behaviors are often caused by boredom. A dog that doesn’t receive sufficient exercise can easily become bored or destructive. A bored dog with energy to burn will find things to do to amuse himself. These things will most likely not amuse you. By simply taking a dog out for a walk, you give him opportunities to do something positive instead. A walk can make a dog very happy. They love to check out the sights and smells and will really look forward to spending time with you. Also, since your buddy gets fitter and healthier as he exercises with you regularly, you’ll both live happier, longer lives.

-PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH💥

Because many dog breeds have the potential for numerous health concerns, regular exercise can contribute immeasurably to their well-being. In addition, it’s through sufficient physical stimulation that they also get to expend their excess energy which will help them stay happy and out of trouble.

– SOCIALIZATION💥

It is one of the keys to helping dogs become well-rounded pets. Through regular exercise with them, you can expose your fur baby to new people, settings, and experiences which is crucial for his growth.

He will get to know all the sights and sounds of her neighborhood by meeting other people and other dogs, encountering small animals such as birds and squirrels, and becoming familiar with common noises. Cars, motorcycles, bicycles, skateboards, horns, lawn mowers, etc – the more your dog encounters on his walks with you, the less likely he will be scared or nervous of new sounds in the future. Aside from this, your dog will get the chance to learn new things and bond with you.

-DOG TRAINING-BASIC OBEDIENCE💥

A walk is also a great time to work on basic obedience or expand your dog’s learning. A squirrel running up a tree or a bicycle whizzing by are great opportunities to practice “sit,” “look at me,” or any number of other basic commands. Your dog will benefit from getting the chance to exercise his brain as well as his body, and you will benefit by having an even better behaved dog.

-STRENGTHEN YOUR BOND💥

Daily walks provide much needed quality time for you and your dogie. This time is extremely important to your dog’s behavioral development and will provide the foundation for a trusting relationship.

-DECREASE LONELINESS💥

Solitary walks (for the humans) or sitting in the backyard (for the dogs) can get pretty lonely. Quality walks with your four-legged pal can reduce feelings of loneliness for you and your dog.

🤔IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A DOG-WHAT YOU CAN DO?⬇️

Walk with dogs is possible through charity events organized by numerous of dog shelters usually once a month. But also it is possible any other days when the shelter is open.

Just look around how many such events organized in your local area.

Dog walks start usually from 10 AM till 4 PM (depends on season time and shelter schedule). Participation costs usually 5 Eur per person by donations for shelter needs.

For the dogs 🐕at shelters, it is not easy to learn how to walk on a leash. For example with 75+ dogs at Dog Valley Rescue Center (Limassol, Cyprus) and many other ones there is no enough time for shelter dog cares and volunteers to spend with dogs daily to teach them leash manners quietly and slowly. That is why only a part of the friendly and lovely dogs have this opportunity. But those who know the walks outside of the shelter with human friends are waiting every month dog walk event impatiently for their half hour or so of being a companion dog with a special person’s attention.

Everybody who likes to walk with a four legged new furry friend and make a shelter dog very happy is invited to join their walk events🐕.

To really enjoy these walks, you have to be dressed properly in the oldest pants and sneakers since the shelter dogs show their enthusiasm and love sometimes by jumping up at you and giving sloppy dog kisses. They are not trained, but they show their feelings clearly, so clothes might suffer.

You can join the walks🐕🚶‍♂️ at whatever time you wish during the event timetable 🕓and for as long as you wish.

It’s also a great way to spend a few hours with family, friends 👪and rescued dogs🐕 in the great outdoors, whilst raising essential funds💰 for keeping them fed and safe. There are some families with older children 👨‍👧‍👧coming as often as possible. A dog walk with wonderful shelter dogs 🐕 is for many a very touching experience which they enjoy and like to repeat😀.

We invite you to come to take part every time when you see the next event around your area.
